Most magical is the short moment of silence at the end of the play. You see the faces and feelings of all characters, all with their own story and things they are going trough and you realize that in reality, it’s not any different. We all have our own things to fight, our own story, but for this moment, while doing or watching this play, we all come together and forget about it, we just have fun and do something we like. A short time of our life, so short that it won’t even be seen as important, we forget and share something we like, for a short moment we form a group, a unity, before we all spread again and go on with our lives, trying to fit in, to find a group, not realizing that we have just been this group we are looking for, sharing the moment, all equal, feeling comfortable and not worrying for some time.

That feeling when someone who always acts popular and cool (in a negative way), changes his mind, starts acting nice to you and apologizes in front of his popular friends. Then you have reached something…
It’s been a while ago that this happened, but I still think about it a lot. Some weeks ago there were more than 100 pianos spread out over my city, they could be found anywhere, on the streets, pavements, on terraces and squares. Anyone who wanted this could sit down and play the piano. This lasted one week.
One of those evenings we went to the city centre with a group to play the piano and sing songs together, to make music and have fun. We managed to get a piano in the middle of the busiest square in the city. We all gathered around the piano, and there the magical moment started. The age varied from 14 to 26, music styles from rock to boogie woogie to pop to rap and everything more. But even though all these differences and the fact that I knew only half of the people and was one of the weakest singers, the music joined us, made us one group. It was just us and the music. And it was amazing… That evening I discovered the magic of music, and what it can do to people. And since then I didn’t want to ever let it go anymore. Music became more important to me than it had ever been, now that I realize how special it is. I wouldn’t be able to live without music!
The Magic of Music…
- Piano, singing and dance (boogie woogie style, there was a couple that could do this really good!) combine and make the evening a happy, fun party evening that makes everybody smile, the people who join the music but also the people who come along and hear it.
- People coming a long hear us and stop, gather around the piano, watching and listening (and then when they have heard enough all go back to their own, very different life)
- Pianist and rapper work together, improvising, and an amazingly cool rap with a beat of a piano comes to excist.
- How I, while singing, can strongly feel the absence of P. I really felt she was there, and it gave me strenght and trust.
- Singing together with A, looking at eachother sometimes, we were really singing it together, as a team.
- The song Hallelujah, when everyone dared to sing, nobody held it in or was nervous.
The different styles and people joined together to make music together and it created a unity, a group… All because of this single piano on this single square in this single city.
Since this I care even more about music, I know see how special it is. I didn’t want to stop and I am getting more and more motivated to train my singing skills, to be able to do those kinds of things more often. I am much more aware now of how special these moments are when they happen. People making music together, a band performing, just singing along with a song with some people, it all joins us in some way.
I think everyone deserves a moment(s) in his or her life. And if you have the chance to join something like this, to make music or to watch an artist perform, please don’t doubt and do it, even if you only join to watch. Don’t be affraid to join the music and share it. Music won’t ever let you down. Music is magic.
